Gold Amitayus Statue Longevity Attribute

Amitayus has a very close affiliation with Amitabha Buddha. This affiliation exists because Amitayus is the sambhogakaya embodiment of Amitabha’s longevity attribute. Buddhas and high level bodhisattvas have the ability to appear in different forms. Indeed, they have the ability to take any form necessary to ease the suffering of sentient life, including the embodiment of longevity.

Amitayus statues are central to Tibetan longevity rituals. As part of the ritual, a vessel is filled with wine and consecrated. Additionally, each participant then drinks a small portion of the wine which is believed to prolong life. Click here to learn more about the origin of Amitayus.
